WHERE I COME FROM
A graduate of Hofstra University, Cum Laude, Jessica went on to receive her Juris Doctor from Pace University School of Law where she wrote for the Environmental Law Review and participated in the International Criminal Moot Court. During her last semester at law school, Jessica was selected for an internship in the Appeals Bureau of the Dutchess County District Attorney’s Office. After demonstrating her skill at legal research and writing, Jessica was hired by the District Attorney’s Office upon graduation and began her long service to Dutchess County (2000-2017).
A THRIVING CAREER
Jessica’s legal career spans two decades in which she established herself as one of the most respected and admired attorneys in Dutchess County. Known for her firm yet fair approach to prosecution, fellow prosecutors, defense attorneys, and the judiciary have come to hold her in the highest regard as a skilled trial attorney who is committed to the highest ethical standards and a passionate defender of victim’s rights.
As a Dutchess County Prosecutor, Jessica successfully prosecuted thousands of misdemeanor and felony crimes, conducted hundreds of pre-trial hearings and over fifty jury trials for offenses including Aggravated Vehicular Homicide, Aggravated Vehicular Assault (against a police officer), Leaving the Scene of an Accident Resulting in Death, Driving While Impaired By Alcohol and/or Drugs, and Aggravated Cruelty to Animals. Jessica served as a member of the
New York State DWI Advisory Council and created a forensic evidence team for the Dutchess County SPCA Humane Law Enforcement Office. Jessica also gained invaluable experience while assigned to the District Attorney’s Appeals Bureau where she established and refined the legal knowledge and skill that would serve as the foundation for her entire career.
As a Senior Assistant District Attorney and leading advocate for prevention education, Jessica volunteered countless hours to speak at our community high schools as part of the “Teen Driving Program” aimed at educating parents and students of the risks of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. She also worked tirelessly to prosecute cases of animal neglect and abuse, often working closely with the Attorney General’s Office, to shut down pet retailers that
were selling sick and maltreated pets and to hold the offenders accountable.
In 2017, Jessica entered private practice to pursue civil litigation. In 2018, she obtained a $1.3 Million Dollar personal injury jury trial verdict (recognized as a Top 100 Premises Liability Verdict in United States in 2018) and was recognized by Hudson Valley Parent Magazine as a 2018 "Favorite Lawyer".
Since 2019, Jessica is of counsel to Carpenter Law, PLLC, where she continues her successful criminal defense and estate planning practice. In addition to her private practice, Jessica enjoys teaching Criminal Law and Procedure classes at Dutchess Community College and is a part-time Assistant District Attorney in the Putnam County District Attorney’s Office.
Throughout Jessica’s career she has been – and continues to be – a frequent presenter of continuing legal education and training classes on criminal law and trial advocacy for the Dutchess County Bar Association, Mid-Hudson Women’s Bar Association, the Dutchess County Magistrates Association, New York State Bar Association Young Lawyer’s Trial Advocacy Program, Pace Law School International Criminal Moot Court, the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office, and the Dutchess County chapter of the Well Armed Woman.

Jessica is an active member of the Dutchess County Bar Association and the Mid-Hudson Women’s Bar Association.
Jessica starts most days lifting weights at a CrossFit gym. In her free time, you will find Jessica watching movies with her two kids, happily cheering them on at their sports and activities, or reading.
